An HDMI to VGA converter is used to connect a PC, laptop or Tablet with an HDMI output to a monitor, TV, screen or projector with a 15 pin VGA input. The VGA converter has built in electronics to perform the signal conversion, the adapters only work in 1 direction, from HDMI to VGA. The converters can be powered from the 5V on the HDMI connector or some versions have a USB or DC socket for extenral power.
